Andile Ngcaba, founder of Convergence Partners, and Executive Chairman of Dimension Data Middle East and Africa, has been appointed to a global panel to address Internet governance. The panel will meet for the first time in December in London, and its report, which will include principles for global Internet cooperation, proposed framework for such cooperation, stakeholder relations and a roadmap for future Internet governance is expected to be released in early 2014.
ICANN, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, was the catalyst for the panel. Toomas Ilves, President of Estonia will chair the Panel, and Vint Cerf, will serve as a vice-chair.
Commenting on the formation of the panel, Ngcaba said: “ The world, technology, society, politics, economy and indeed nearly all aspects of human life are now being driven by the Internet. Constitutions and the laws of countries, world treaties, religious doctrines, and ideologies are all influenced by the Internet. There is no law, regulation or global treaty that’s is not influenced by the Internet. Consequently, this creates a growing global dependence on it.
