Seacom Scores a Trio at AfricaCom Awards 2013
Convergence Partners investee, SEACOM, has excelled at the annual AfricaCom awards this year, clinching two first places and one second place in key categories of the prestigious awards. The AfricaCom Awards are held each year during the AfricaCom Conference in Cape Town and recognise excellence in the telecoms, media and ICT sectors.
The winners were announced at a gala dinner on 13 November 2013 and SEACOM won the following awards:
Says SEACOM CEO Mark Simpson: “We are humbled to have received this recognition in an annual event that attracts entries from Africa’s very best networks, service providers and vendors. AfricaCom is one of the best-known telecommunication events on the continent, so winning these awards is an acknowledgement of the contribution we are making to the growth and development of the African Internet. We plan to keep investing in our network so that we can help our carrier and service provider customers to continue improving the quality, reliability and affordability of African telecoms services.”
Among SEACOM’s winning products, SEACOM’s Remote Peering solution streamlines exchange peering for African service providers. It bundles SEACOM connectivity with exchange point membership to provide operators and ISPs in Africa with a cost-effective means for the management of their international peering requirements. In time, this service will help Africa’s telecom industry to benefit from greater control over routing, lower latency, greater visibility, and lower packet loss without the high costs associated with building out their own infrastructure to multiple exchange points.
The African Ring initiative, meanwhile, builds diversity into SEACOM’s terrestrial and submarine routes to ensure that customers are provided with the best service available. The result is that SEACOM now has a robust and diverse ring that surrounds the African continent, giving carriers and service providers higher levels of network uptime so that they can deliver more reliable services to their customers.
Finally, the SEACOM IP network covers major centres across Eastern and South Africa with IP points of presence in South Africa, Mozambique, Tanzania and Kenya as well as extensions across borders and into landlocked central. This service enables SEACOM customers to bring international content closer to their users, deliver rich local content easily, and improve the local user Internet experience.
