New Wi-Fi industry body for SA launched at Africacom
A new voluntary industry body has been launched to regulate and monitor the Wi-Fi industry in South Africa. The Wi-Fi Forum of South Africa, led by chairperson Andile Ngcaba, aimed to “create a collaborative and self-regulating body that promotes the effective use of WiFi technologies in the delivery of ubiquitous, interoperable and seamless connectivity in South Africa”.
The founding members of the forum are Dimension Data, Internet Solutions, Comsol Wireless Solutions and Always On, and is expected to be fully operational by March 2014.
“The new industry body, which would comprise operators, service providers, technology providers and associated parties, besides others, as members, planned to provide an effective collaboration and advocacy body for the industry, similar to the way the FTTH council serviced its industry, Internet Solutions executive for carrier services” says Raj Wanniappa
The forum would provide input to regulatory processes that would impact on the Wi-Fi community and accelerate the adoption of high-speed, reliable and cost-effective broadband services in South Africa.
