JoziHub opens its doors to African tech entrepreneurs
On 21 February 2013, a high profile gathering of Johannesburg’s innovators, entrepreneurs and thought leaders marked the official opening and launch of JoziHub. JoziHub, situated at the vibrant 44 Stanley, Milpark, Johannesburg precinct is poised to transform the city’s technology industry by connecting potential entrepreneurs and developers with the critical resources they need. As the city’s first technology incubator dedicated to fostering entrepreneurship and innovation, it is set to transform the tech innovation landscape in the city and country.
Founded by the Praekelt Foundation and backed by Omidyar Network, Google and ISlabs, JoziHub will be more than just a physical working space – it will become the epicenter for technological development and entrepreneurship in Johannesburg.
ISLabs, the incubation programme of Internet Solutions (IS), will provided sponsorship in the form of connectivity and related services as well as linking it to their incubation programme. IS launched ISLabs to identify promising online projects and assist them in their development.
JoziHub will be the facilitator for interactions and collaborations among various stakeholders such as research, private sector and public institutions, providing a dynamic and far-reaching eco-system for entrepreneurs to drive their initiatives. Emphasis will be placed on the development of Internet, social media and mobile technologies that address the country’s most pressing social challenges.
